BREAM'S mighty community effort to restore the lovely village cenotaph will finally be completed with its rededication on Friday evening, September 20.

A grand total of £20,000 has been raised in just three years to enable the work to be completed and all last week the finishing touches were being put to the monument and its surroundings.

The work has also enabled a mistake to be corrected.

Since 1945 the name of one of those who died in the last war was incorrectly listed as D. Hancocks.

"Now we have had the opportunity to correct that and knock off the 'S'," explained Ian Hendy who has played a leading role in organising the rededication.

The parade, which begins at 6.30pm, will include soldiers from The Royal Gloucestershire, Berkshire and Wiltshire Regiment and their Corps of Drums, Bream Band and ATC members.

Following the rededication service at the Cenotaph at 6.45 there will be a band concert followed by a selection of wartime tunes and dances at The Rising Sun as well as a disco and barbecue at the Sports Club.

At 8.45pm there will be a fireworks display on the sports ground after which the Cenotaph will be floodlit for The Last Post.
