I AM trying to find any newspaper reports or information of an event on March 11, 1861.
We have been on a visit to the Forest searching family ties and have tracked down a death, by accident (we believe to be a carriage accident) in Monmouth March 11, 1861.
A Nathaniel Hawkins was killed and possibly his wife Rhoda (née Aston).
We believe they had been married, possibly in Woolaston or Christchurch in 1877 and had a child, Mary Ann, who was four or five years old at the time of Nathaniel's death. We have been to the church at Woolaston, without much luck.
My wife is a descendent of Mary Ann, who married a Daniel Swan. They moved to Australia and then New Zealand.
We are trying to find what happened to Rhoda and the background of Mary's husband Daniel Swan, who seems to have just appeared from thin air.
Unfortunately we know what happened to Mary Ann – Daniel killed her in New Zealand in 1905.
Any help on locating historical info around 1861 would be greatly appreciated. – Lindsay and Heather Cox, Gold Coast, Australia. Email [email protected]">[email protected]
