LYDNEY'S much admired open air Bathurst Swimming Pool has received a boost with the completion of a new toilet block.

The work has cost £20,000 over £13,000 of which has been provided by Gloucestershire Environmental Trust with landfill tax contributions donated by Cory Environmental.

Bob Merryman, chairman of The Friends of Bathurst Pool, has described the donation as a "wonderful gift."

He said the pool continued to thrive and was a much appreciated community asset.

During the summer over 7,000 people had used the facility. "As soon as the sun shines children and adults flock there," he said.

"We really appreciate the contribution from the Trust. Without their help such improvements would not be possible," he said.

Mr Berryman said the Friends were now actively considering further improvements including installing heating.

"There are a number of options including solar panels. Such a major project would not be achieveable without support from outside bodies and we are very grateful for all that the Environmental Trust has done for Lydney and the surrounding area," he said.
