MONMOUTH MP David Davies has warned that further hold-ups in processing unpaid EU farm subsides could have serious consequences for the rural economy.

Davies is pressing the Welsh Government to release remaining payments after hearing from farmers about cash flow problems they are experiencing due to the delays.

He said: “Five months after the Basic Payment Scheme window opened, a number of farmers in the Monmouth area, who were all inspected by Rural Payments Wales last year, have still not received their first instalments.

“If farmers don’t get paid, someone else doesn’t get paid. The Welsh Government must act now and ensure the situation is brought to a speedy conclusion.”
