Unfortunately while the swallows were in the builders had to move out.
The carpenter, plumber and electrician had to turn their hands to other tasks in another part of the house as the swallows completed bringing up their young family in peace and quiet, enjoying the roof space largely free from human interference.
Of course they didn't mind the odd visit for a chat, and quite happily carried on the daily routine of feeding and learning to fly.
The family finally quit the house and the village last Saturday – at least three weeks and hundreds of miles behind the rest of the local flock.
And, says Charlie, please – no jokes about these being the only birds he can chat up!
