REPORTS that the Forestry Commission has received a half million pound grant to invest in a new circular cycle path at Cannop would seem to indicate that the route has already been decided and is, consequently, a missed opportunity for local residents.
Whilst I'm delighted to see any investment in local cycling, I'm annoyed that such a project should take precedence over much-needed routes connecting population centres within the Forest. The road from Parkend to Lydney, for example, particularly the section between the ugly new bridge in Whitecroft and Norchard, is especially dangerous for cyclists and I would much rather see the money spent on a cycle path following the steam railway corridor.
