THE recent death of my good friend Ben James at the age of 95 brought back memories of some 61 years ago.
Ben and myself were both teaching at Coleford Secondary School, and I was also teaching at Berry Hill Secondary School. Between us we organised the Forest of Dean Schools Association football team.
The team beat Gloucester, Cheltenham and Stroud teams and then defeated the Yeovil team who had beaten the Bristol team. We then went on to play Plymouth on the Argyle ground and lost 2 - 1.
These 'boys' must now be in their middle 70s. Where are they now?
I only know of Sid Barnfield whom I occasionally see in Lydney.
