FOLLOWING on from the successful Forest Showcase festivals, held each autumn in the grounds of Speech House Hotel, comes news of a new Forest Activities Festival.
Organisers aim to make a complete day of showcasing some of the many activities which are available locally in the Forest of Dean, both indoors and out, from clay pigeon shooting, to archery, orienteering, bush craft, den building, cookery and photography.
Announcing the event, which is due to take place on April 27 this year. organiser Amanda Smith commented: "The aim is for people to come and have a go, to try out a new experience.
"The event will feature many displays, demonstrations and taster sessions, and we will also promote voluntary and community organisations. We hope to cater for all ages, but we are especially keen to introduce children and young people to new activities that encourage a more healthy and active lifestyle."
A group of hoteliers and activity providers have come together to create the new festival, which they hope will prove as successful in promoting local activities as the Forest Showcase event has done for local produce, and which last year saw several thousands of people attend.
Gill Hands, who is chair of the organising team said: "We are looking to support the tourism sector of the local economy by providing the opportunity for local businesses to promote themselves to the local community and visitors, within a showcase environment."
" Our aim is to promote quality, and raise the profile of the Forest of Dean district, as a centre for excellence in tourism."
A large marquee willl be available for potential exhibitors, or they are invited to bring along their own gazebo. A limited number of charity pitches have also been earmarked.
Exhibitors so far confirmed include Pedalabikeaway, the Forestry Commission and outdoor pursuits company Way2Go Adventures.
