FURTHER to the photo that my dad, David Rudge brought in (A Forest family photo, May 13) and was featured in the paper. I can add some more information.
We have been told that the elderly couple was John and Elizabeth (née Morse) Turley. The photo was taken at Rose Tree Cottage on Blakeney Hill, John was a stone mason and I believe he built the house.
The photo was taken before 1918 because that was when John died aged 66. Elizabeth died in 1933 aged 84.
I’m not sure about the other men in the photo but I know they had three sons John, Sam (my mother’s grandfather) and Jesse.
I think the fourth man could be Gilbert, John’s nephew, who was brought up by John and Elizabeth after his mother died.
His parents were John’s brother Edwin and Charlotte (née Bodenham). So it is possible that they are the men but which is which I can’t say.
The couple also had three daughters Emily, Paulina and Elizabeth known as Bessie.
Emily and Paulina moved to Lancashire after they married but I haven’t been able to trace Elizabeth.
Any suggestions as to who the men are would be welcome.
