FOREST hockey teams brought home a clutch of gold, silver and bronze medals from the Western Counties Youth Games.
The U15 boys won gold without losing a game. Their opponents were Cotswold, Kennet, Mendip, North Somerset, North Wiltshire, Sedgemoor, Stroud, Tewkesbury and West Somerset.
The U15 girls beat West Somerset 2-0 in the semi finals to play Sedgemoor in the final. The Forest team had most of the goalmouth pressure in the first half but Sedgemoor scored a breakaway goal, which dented the confidence of the Forest girls who came away with well-deserved silver.
Kate Dawe, their manager, was delighted with the team's performance but especially Katie Adams, who was top goal scorer, and Charlotte Jackson, who made some terrific saves.
Not to be outdone, the U13 boys also reached the final where they met Sedgemoor, one goal was the difference with the Forest boys taking silver. Steve Edgell, the team manager, was particularly impressed with the strong midfield performance from his team.
The U13 girls won bronze medals beating Cotswold with a last minute reverse stick flick from Laura Stephens in the play off. Manager June King that that the team had bonded reallyw ell as it was their first tournament together.
The junior and senior swim teams were also very strong particularly in the relay events with both teams winning bronze medals.
Other team results were: junior athletics 8th, senior athletics 7th; Girls football 4th in group; Senior netball 6th; Girls cricket 4th; Junior tag rugby 5th, senior girls rugby 6th; Junior tennis 6th.
Theresa McCarthy, the Forest team organiser, said: "All the youngsters trained hard for these games and they had a fantastic weekend. We are very grateful for the support given by their volunteer help, particularly the team managers who have worked hard with their teams enabling them to be so successful."
Alan Grove, leisure services officer, added: "I would also like to congratulate all the participants and volunteers on making this the most successful games ever for the Forest of Dean.
"Additionally, my thanks go to Theresa, our sports development officer, for the incredible amount of hard work she has put in to co-ordinate our participation in the event."
