A CINDERFORD-born business man has been honoured by his home town for his outstanding contribution to the community.

Builder Keith Bell was awarded the honorary freedom of the town by Cinderford Town Council.

Mr Bell, who is chairman of the KW Bell group of companies, was presented with a certificate conferring the honorary title.

He was joined by members of his family as he received the award at the council chamber in Cinderford.

The accolade recognises “the valuable services he has rendered to the town by supporting many organisations, in addition to the town council, by carrying out building and ground works and with financial sponsorship for the excellent sporting facilities in Cinderford.”

Town clerk, Linda Thomas, said: “Cinderford Town Council loudly applauded Keith for his valuable and sterling service, while thanking him most sincerely.”

Mayor of Cinderford, Cllr Max Coborn – who worked for Mr Bell as an apprentice at the age of 15, said it was “a real privilege” to present the certificate to Mr Bell.

He said: “Keith has never forgotten his roots and he has done so much to support Cinderford.

“He has done so much quietly in the background without drawing attention but he has been a great supporter of the town.

“He really is a top class bloke and he thoroughly deserves the freedom of the town..”

Mr Bell set up his first company 52 years ago and several members of his family have followed him into the business.
