Soldiers from the Royal Monmouthshire Royal Engineers Militia marched through Monmouth with bayonets fixed from the old Monnow Bridge up to the Shire Hall on Sunday to renew their rights after being granted the freedom of the town. With its HQ at Monmouth Castle the unit has a long association with the town, and some of its members have been serving in Afghanistan. After saluting VIP guests including the Duke of Gloucester, the Honorary Colonel of the Regiment, the unit marched to St Mary's for a service before marching back up to the castle grounds for a medals parade.
