POLICE are hunting burglars who ransacked an 84-year-old woman’s home and stole jewellery.

According to the pensioner’s granddaughter, the elderly victim was staying with relatives while recovering from an operation when the raiders broke in.

CCTV reportedly shows the gang striking at the Ruspidge Road home in Cinderford around 6pm on Sunday.

The pensioner’s granddaughter Danielle Taylor has posted CCTV images of a silver Peugeot estate or Volkswagen Passat car which arrived outside the house around 6pm and left around 6.25pm, with only one tail light working, on her Facebook page.

More than 200 people posted in response, and she replied: "Thank u everyone, nan is ok as she’s with my mum still recovering from her op."

Another poster later said he would send her CCTV which showed the car’s registration.

A Gloucestershire Police spokeswoman said: "We were called to reports of a burglary at a property on Ruspidge Road in Cinderford yesterday (January 21).

"The incident which took place between 12pm and 7.15pm saw offenders enter via a ground floor window conducting an untidy search of the main bedroom before leaving with various items of jewellery.

"If you are offered any jewellery or witnessed any suspicious activity in the area please call 101 quoting incident number 355 of 21 January."
