A WELL-KNOWN bench erected in memory of George Read MBE has been restored following a car ploughing into it.

The bench, which has sat on top of Plump Hill since 2010, was destroyed in March following a crash.

Four months later the bench has been given a new lease of life by J & C Davies Joinery of Monmouth.

Chairman of Mitcheldean Parish Council, Douglas Scott said: "Mitcheldean Parish Council are pleased to inform that the George Read Memorial bench is back in pride of place at the top of Plump Hill. Special thanks should go to Pam and the Read family for their patience and J & C Davies Joinery, of Monmouth, who did a fantastic job restoring it."
