LYDNEY’S Paralympics gold medallist Andy Lewis met the little scamp who helped him over the handlebars of his bike on a training run – to check she was OK.
Andy was travelling at around 35mph between Hewelsfield and Alvington on Wednesday, June 28 when Lottie appeared from a field and the two collided.
He said: “I’m glad she’s ok – had to go back and check.”
Andy thanked those who came to his aid and said nobody was at fault for the collision.
He says despite the injury he remains positive and will work to compete in the world championships in the autumn.
Andy was taken to the Gloucestershire Royal Hospital with a fractured collarbone, a tear in the abdomen and other injuries that needed 13 stitches.
An MRI scan came back all clear and he is hoping to get back to training in the next few weeks.
He said: “What I need is consistency of training but I will bounce back from this.”
He will work closely with the team from British Triathlon to build up to the world chamionships.
Andy also appealed for cyclists to wear the correct safety equipment – he is convinced his helmet saved his life.
He said: “If you are riding your bike, ensure that you wear the right equipment – without it, it could have been a lot worse for me.”
