PEOPLE across the Forest and Wye Valley joined in the Comic Relief spirit to raise money for the charity.

More than 50 people got into the saddle at the Co-op in Cinderford to pedal the distance to Disneyland Paris.

They were joined by local boxers Chris Higgs and Lewis van Poetsch and raised more than £1,000.

Leah Creed, who works in the Co-op travel agency said: "We needed to cycle 695 kilometres but we actually did 832km.

"People were really buzzing at the end and we can't believe how well it went.

"We would like to thank Chris and Poochi, Club Ginger for letting us have two bikes and Glaxo Smith Kline for the drinks."

At Beales department store in the town staff got baking to raise money.

The home-made goodies were supplemented by others from the nearby Sophia's restaurant.

Local mental health nurse Phil Morgan-Henshaw prepared to do something painful for Comic Relief as he agreed to have his head shaved and legs waxed.

Schools across the area held fun events including St John's C of E Academy in Coleford who organised their own version of X-Factor.
