FRIENDS of the Dilke dodged the showers on Saturday (June 11) to hold the annual fete in the hospital grounds.

Treasurer Sue Young told the Review: “It was a really successful day. We raised nearly £5,000 and we really want to extend our thanks to all those who helped in any way.

“We raised £1,600 ahead of time through ticket sales for our grand draw and Wyedean Rally donated £500 from the sale of their book Wyedean at 40. We had a tombola, cake and refreshments stalls, plant sales and loads going on.

“We were entertained by Bethel Singing Group, Berry Hill Band and Morris and clog dancing from the family Morris weekend tour. Steam Mills School sent a small team of country dancers who performed under the expert supervision of Miss Bosley.

“Kids enjoyed being able to climb in a police car and make the lights flash and 1st Cinderford Scouts and Cubs ran a barbecue. Severn Dean Lions helped us move equipment and helped with the car parking and Rotary Club members ran a coconut shy.

“It was a great day and we had a really good turnout. We’re so pleased it stayed dry despite rain during set up.”

The League of Friends of the Dilke Hospital use any funds they raise for purchasing additional equipment for the hospital and to benefit patients.

Sue says: “We have a band of very supportive members ranging in age from 18 to over 80. We’d very much like to hear from any local groups who are willing to help or support us – practically or with fundraising.”
