MITCHELDEAN Endowed Primary School has been rated ‘good and improving’ in a recent Ofsted report.
A spokesperson for the school said: “The inspector found the school to be securely ‘good and improving’ and praised the determined and effective leadership of the school’s headteacher in her ‘drive for excellence in all aspects of the school’s work’.
“This is reflected in the school’s consistently high results over a number of years. The inspector recognised the contributions that pupils make to the wider community through their charity work and ‘enterprise activities’ and the hard work of staff and governors.
“The inspector chose a random group of children to interview and was given a very positive view of the school by pupils who said they ‘enjoy every minute’ and ‘wouldn’t change anything’.
“Two areas for development were identified: one was for pupils to apply, more fully, their writing skills in history and the other was to improve attendance, for which the school needs the support of parents in reducing holidays in term-time.
“The headteacher, Julia Dowding, and chair of governors, Rev David Gill, would like to thank the pupils, staff, governors, parents and friends of Mitcheldean School for their continued hard work, support and goodwill.”
Over the summer holidays, a substantial amount of building work has been undertaken at the school to improve the entrance and the provision in the hall for worship, PE and events. Work is due to be completed by October half-term.
