A LYDNEY housing complex has won a national award for the services it provides to its residents.

Goode Court, which is run by Housing 21, won gold in the Housing for Older People awards.

Residents Sheila Wignall and Doris Greig joined manager Carole Cousins for the presentation of the awards by former health minister Edwina Currie at the National Motorcycle Museum in Birmingham.

The residents scored their scheme on a variety of statements relating to both the quality of the property and the support and general sense of wellbeing they enjoy there.

To make the process more entertaining the statements are written on cards, effectively allowing the residents to form small groups and play a card game while scoring their housing and contributing to the awards process.

The accommodation was evaluated by residents on the basis of location, building quality, their own flats services and lifestyle.

Goode Court is a sheltered complex of 29 flats for people older than 55 which opened in 1980.

Goode Court manager, Carole Cousins, said: "We were thrilled to win the award, particularly as it was voted for by residents."
