THE church clock at Awre has a striking new surround thanks to local fundraising and the help of local companies.

Locals took part in a sponsored "walkaclockathon" around the village. The oak for the surround was donated by Blakeney-based Miles Laughton Joinery and the scaffolding was provided free-of-change by Keith Bell. The work was carried out by local carpenters John Dunlop and his dad Phil.

Fundraiser Mark Awre said: "The oak looks absolutely fantastic. It's a wonderful piece.

"It was a real community effort with the walkaclockathon and the help of local businesses.

"The beautiful oak came from Miles Laughton Joinery in Blakeney and Keith Bell came to the rescue with the scaffolding.

"We weren't sure how we were going to get the wood up onto the tower but Keith gave us the scaffolding free-of-charge.

"The workmanship that has gone into making the surrounding is brilliant."
