A CELEBRATION of Assamese New Year is taking place at Chepstow’s Drill Hall on Saturday May 13, to coincide with an exhibition of textiles from the region at the nearby museum.
Rongali Bihu is a north eastern Indian festival celebrated in mid-April by members of many different faiths in Assam. It marks the new year and the advent of seed sowing.
Members of the Assamese community in Birmingham and London are travelling to Chepstow to demonstrate and talk about the dances, music, customs and traditions that surround the festival.
To book tickets to the event, which runs from 3pm to 5.30pm, contact Chepstow Museum on 01291 625981.
