LYDNEY coastal community team is inviting residents and businesses to view the plans for the future of Lydney’s historic harbour.
The district council submitted a bid to the government’s Coastal Community Fund on behalf of the team for £2.1m to improve the pedestrian, cycle and vehicular access to the harbour, the creation of an interactive heritage information point, a new communityand education space and new toilet facilities. The plans also include a new shared pedestrian and cycle track, landscaping improvements and a phased programme of canal dredging.
Initial plans were submitted in June this year and were well received, and in October the team was invited to continue to the next stage of the bidding.
If secured, the funding will revive the historic harbour and improve links from the station, helping to shape the future prosperity of Lydney and boost the local economy.
The project details are available to view at Lydney library and the Coleford council offices.
Councillor Patrick Molyneux (Con, Hewelsfield and Woolaston), leader of the Forest of Dean District Council, said: “The submission of the second stage of the bid is a positive step forward for Lydney and the local area.
“The coastal community team is keen for residents and businesses to take a look at the plans and offer comments to help inform the detailed design and implementation should the bid be successful.”
Lydney coastal community team find out if their bid is successful in spring 2017.
