TV RACING presenter Hayley Moore has been dubbed ‘Superwoman’ after heroically stopping a runaway horse at Chepstow Racecourse live on air.

The At The Races star was dragged along the ground by Give ’Em a Clump, but bravely held onto the reins to prevent it trampling down racegoers in its path.

Dusting herself down after her heroics last week (Tuesday, May 22) , the amateur jockey calmly told Sky TV viewers: “They’ll have to put the divot back in, but luckily it’s on the jumps track so they’ll have time to get the truck on the track.”

She later added: “Keith Ottesen (clerk of the course) had got him to run down a good part of the track (to be caught), which is where we were. There were horsey people around and I thought I would try to help.

“He had started to slow down – I wouldn’t have done it if he wasn’t. He just caught the side of my face, which is what knocked me down, but I’m fine.

“I just couldn’t bear the thought of him going round again, especially on quite a hot day. He had the blinkers on and I think he was panicking a little, he was running on adrenaline. I’m used to catching horses, but not quite like that!”

The drama began when Give ’Em A Clump stumbled and unseated its rider Fran Berry. As racegoers and officials dived out of the three-year-old’s way, Moore moved in live on air to stop the runaway, standing her ground on the course to grab the reins, and holding on despite being sent flying.

The sister of former champion jump jockey Ryan sent social media into a frenzy with her nerves of steel, and the story made

headlines worldwide

Otteson said: “I thought it was a hell of a tackle. She was brave – too brave, really – but luckily she was fine.

“It was one of the best tackles I’ve seen in Wales. We wouldn’t normally advocate that sort of thing, but we all know where Hayley comes from.”

He added: “Fran is all right, basically. He was just a bit shaken up by it all and was stood down for the day.”

Hayley was later presented with a ‘Superman’ T-shirt and a framed cartoon by racing cartoonist Darren Birdie showing her flying through the air holding onto a horse.
