AN eight-year-old Forest boy is being praised for his heroic efforts after he helped save his grandfather’s life.

Harley Davies, a pupil at St Anthony’s School in Cinderford, and his grandfather Robert Giles had been cycling near Pedalbikeaway, at Cannop, when Mr Giles collided with a tree and was seriously injured. Harley ran a considerable distance to get help and his quick thinking ensured that his grandfather received early medical help.

Mr Giles suffered four broken ribs and a punctured lung. Following two weeks in hospital and a further 10 days recovering from a lung infection, Mr Giles is now recovering well.

Headteacher Mrs Julie James made a special presentation to Harley during a recent assembly and read a tribute from his grandfather.

Mr Giles said: “My injuries were potentially life-threatening and without the swift action of Harley and the medical team it could have been fatal. My eight-year-old grandson is a hero in my eyes as he saved my life.”

He also added a plea to everyone to wear their safety equipment when riding their bikes.

Mrs James added: “We were delighted to be part of this very special tribute to a brave and sensible boy and we are all very proud of Harley.”
