AN act of remembrance led to the publication of a book about the names on the war memorial at Awre.
Glennis Button and Mark Awre started to research the stories of the names on the village memorial last year.
Glennis said: "Last year on Remembrance Day residents of Awre gathered round the war memorial and promised to remember those who gave their lives for us.
"However, people realised that they didn't know who some of people listed on the memorial were.
"Mark and I were so moved by this that we set out to find out who these young men and boys were.
"We were told that it would an impossible job as families had moved away and little was known about them."
But Mark and Glennis were able to find out about the lives of the 14 men and have produced the book, proceeds from which will go to St Andrew's Church in Awre.
The book, The Fallen Heroes of Awre tells of their experiences beginning with a cavalry charge in 1914, through to World War Two, and ends with an SAS mission in 1971.
