THE drivers of Heywood Community School's bid to convert to academy status are seeking views from students, parents, governors, staff and members of the public on the proposed changes.

Detailed plans were this week opened to consultation by the academy specialists E-ACT, who are sponsoring Heywood's bid.

Under the proposals Heywood would remain on its current site in Causeway Road and reopen as an academy in September this year. The current proposed new name is Forest E-ACT Academy. Views on the new name can also be fed back during the consultation period.

The proposals see a curriculum that will equip all students with a comprehensive portfolio of skills enabling them to present a flexible, adaptable and confident profile to the world of further education and employment, says E-ACT.

"A personalised academy portfolio will chart each student's progress from entry, ensuring that abilities and aspirations are fully challenged and supported throughout their educational journey. The English baccalaureate, foundation, vocational and work-related pathways, part of the rich curriculum offer, will be supported by access to continuously up-dated ICT and digital technology provision."

Tanya Prosser, current head and principal designate of the proposed changes, said: "I am very pleased to be part of the team working to create and drive forward the proposed Forest E-ACT Academy.

"This is an extremely exciting project and an opportunity for Heywood to significantly increase the pace of change, ensuring our students receive the very best educational experience. We are very keen to hear from parents, staff, governors, students and others in the community to ensure the proposal is a success."

A series of consultation meetings will be taking place next Wednesday (May 9) in the school theatre, from 4.30pm-5pm and again at 5.30pm-6pm. The meetings are open to all and will be a chance to find out more about the plans, ask the team any questions and share views on any aspect of the proposal.
