IT’S a high five for a park café which is celebrating its fifth anniversary this Sunday (October 8) by asking people to create a giant tree mural using their handprints.

The Coffee House in Bathurst Park, Lydney, has also just been nominated for two prestigious Countryside Alliance Awards – in the rural enterprise of the year and local food/drink categories, meaning it has lots to raise a cuppa too.

Customers past and present are invited to come along on October 8 from 10am to 12pm to paint their handprint onto paper and sign it, before it is laminated and added to the tree as a ‘leaf’ on a community wall mural in the Pavilion Cafe.

The Bathurst Park Pavilion began its Coffee House journey at the end of 2012, when vending machines were decommissioned and the interior revamped by the current owner Claire Harris who, with a helping hand from her family, the support of the Bathurst Park Trust and a vision of what a Pavilion Café for the community needed to look like, transformed the once dilapidated premises into a successful business.

“I can’t quite believe it’s been five years” said Claire. “It’s so lovely to see such a diverse range of people now enjoying the park/pavilion cafe, it’s exactly how I pictured it.”
