I was very proud to be asked by UK Independence Party to stand as a candidate in the elections for the Lydbrook and Ruardean Ward and would like to thank the returning officer and all her staff for the way the election and the count were conducted.
May I also thank all the UKIP members who helped me with my campaign together with the more than 540 people who showed their support by registering their vote for me on May 5. Although not elected I will do my best to work for the community as a whole throughout the next four years.
The saddest part of the count for me was the apparent arrogance or apathy shown by many of the candidates who failed to turn up to see whether the voters had decided to support them. I can only hope that those elected will be more diligent in their approach to council matters and meetings.
Finally can I please make a plea that all residents in the Forest of Dean hold their councillors to account. If you do not agree with what they are doing tell them. Don't just wait until the next election to vote against them. It's four years away and it may be too late to correct mistakes. Please remember that the council is supposed to work for you and not the other way round.
– Colin Guyton, UKIP secretary Forest of Dean Branch.
