WELL dang my hide if it ain't the ex-Mayor of Monmouth, Sylvia Gilbert, in l'il old Fort Worth, Texas!
Sylvia was in the US cattle town with husband John, son Andrew and the rest of the family for the wedding of her daughter Sue to Texan Don Vesta.
And while she was there she was made honorary mayor of Fort Worth for a day, a civic duty which included addressing the town council – proceedings watched by thousands on network TV in the States.
Needless to say she took her Review, as can be seen from the picture, and it bore a story of particular poignance for cattle folk everywhere, the sad 'murder' of pet cow Moo at Sling. We guess someone in the picture took a particularly dim view of that sort of thing!
"We had a great time, and I was very impressed with the professionalism of the council and all the old-fashioned courtesy of the Southern States," Mrs Gilbert, Monmouth Mayor in 1995-6, told the Review.
"They even put their hand on their heart and take the oath before they begin council sessions. They have a nine-person executive representing 950,000 people on the city council – I think they have a few lessons for us."
The father of her new son-in-law was a pilot over here in the Second World War and the family made them very welcome.
"I am looking forward to going again next year," she said.
