Severn Area Rescue Association's successful open day at Beachley (August 21) was rudely interrupted when they were called out to a what was believed to be an 'upturned car' in the River Wye.

Mervyn Fleming of SARA said the car had been spotted by a boater and was found in the river close to Llandogo.

"It was a VW Polo upside down in the middle of the river. Turns out to have been stolen about five years ago, so it solved something of a 'cold case' for the police."
