I HATE nuclear power. Do you? If so then make a stand now.
To all the rest of you, think hard about your short term personal convenience and economic growth on which your arguments are founded.
EDF is above planning law, as seen on local television recently.
EDF is allowed to operate without Public Liability Insurance. Its non availability a sign perhaps.
EDF is in business to sell power at any cost.
EDF tidal surge provision on its existing sites is farcical, not to mention tsunami possibilities.
In an emergency the cooling water for the rods has enough backup for three weeks, with diesel generators, which even now are still housed below high water mark, not even up to speed at this level. How reassuring.
EDF forgot to consult the parish council in the village next to Hinkley Point Power Station. Such intolerable arrogance is not acceptable anymore.
Berkeley Power Station was granted planning permission to store low level nuclear waste two years ago. Last year they were granted planning to store medium level waste, with no public consultation with the people of Lydney or the Forest.
Fukushima, do not forget this situation as it is getting worse. Blind nuclear activity with no proof of long term social and economic provision which is clearly needed to deal with the immense task of cleaning up, is madness. The exclusion zone in Japan would mean that Bristol, Newport, Cardiff, Gloucester, and Cheltenham would have to evacuate permanently.
Earth and its wellbeing is well above the base decisions of government economists. Such monumental decisions should be made by the people, in fact its time our politicians did their jobs properly and represented us, not their pockets.
EDF, take your shareholders and your top brass straight to Fukushima, put on some radiation suits and get out there and help your colleagues clean up the mess, before you bring more death and poison to our shores.
On Saturday, March 10 at Hinkley Point is a national protest against this very long term invisible threat to the human race. Pay attention.
