A CHALLENGE and fun day in memory of one of the giants of rugby in the Forest and Wye Valley raised more than £1,600.

The day of rugby and family fun inspired by the late Ian ’Sedge’ Seymour brought together two of his old clubs, Berry Hill and Monmouth.

The event at Berry Hill RFC started with rugby-themed activities for youngsters ahead of games for the veterans and the first teams of the two clubs.

The inaugural memorial shield was won by Monmouth.

There were lots of attractions for families including a bouncy castle and an auction of rugby-themed items such as signed shirts alone raised around £1,000.

Sedge, a former captain and coach at Berry Hill and a title-winning coach at Monmouth, died of prostate cancer in 2016 and the money raised will go to a charity that funds research.
