WRITER and comedian Griff Rhys-Jones returned to Monmouthshire – usually described as the least Welsh part of Wales – to sign copies of his book chronicling his attempt to rediscover the "land of his aunties".

Fans queued at Chepstow Bookshop for a chat and the chance to get their copy of Insufficiently Welsh signed.

It was the first time the star of Not the Nine O'Clock News had been to the border country.

He said: "I went to a Welsh class in the Gatehouse (in Chepstow) and everyone there was quite at ease with their Welshness.

"When I took the show to Monmouth I started off with my experience of visiting Cardiff and you could see the audience was concerned it would be anti-Welsh – but it's not."

Although born in Cardiff Griff was raised in Essex where because of his name he was forced to join the choir and play rugby.

The book is an informal guide to the "real" Wales divided into eight regions.
