A LYDNEY-based recording studio has received an award at an international film festival.

Soundproof Music, which is based on Harbour Road, won the prize for sound design in an animation film at the Portsmouth International Film company.

The studio, which is run by Kevin Jarvis and Jon Fox, provided the soundscape for Rum, a five-minute animation about two bickering pirates, Redbeard and Bluebeard, by Gloucester-based Dark Barn Films.

It is the first film Soundproof has worked on and the award came out of the blue, said Kevin.

He said: “I got a call to say we had won – I was absolutely flabbergasted, it was a hotly-contested category.

“The film has been short-listed for a number of international festivals and we really enjoyed working on it.

The company works with a number of local musicians and theatre groups.

Its next project is to record a centenary concert performance of Holst’s Planet Suite in Cheltenham where the piece received its premiere.
