AS contact person for both CND and Friends of the Earth, my letters are mostly concerned with the various ways that our planet is being polluted.

I write about saving the health of the planet with grand schemes that need government initiative, such as disbanding our nuclear weaponry and spending the millions on more necessary things such as good, cheap public transport to cut down on car use.

Maybe these concepts are too grandiose for most people to cope with.

So, as I am in Gloucester Hospital, my thoughts, naturally, turn to health.

Maybe people could be persuaded to help the planet to breathe by considering their own health.

Fat people have greater trouble coping with illness as I am observing.

Children and young people are getting too fat.

They are being ferried to school in a car. How about a "walking bus" with parents taking it in turns to be driver and conductor (back and front).

How cool to skate to school or use a knapsack for shopping!

It's often like a fun party on the bus and you can pick up on the latest gossip and get to meet the people from other villages. Try it! – Wendy Corum, Ruspidge Road, Cinderford.
