CHILDREN and parents arriving at a Forest school on Monday morning were met by police officers and three strange-looking 'eggs'.
Staff at Lydney Church of England Primary School told the children the trio of large, brightly-coloured objects were dinosaur eggs.
Two local police officers attended to look for evidence and staff dressed in scene-of-crime gear to investigate the mystery.
They explained to the children how the police go about looking for clues and the youngsters set off to explain the mystery.
The arrival of the eggs was the start of a week of activities at the school designed to fire the children's imagination.
Headteacher Rachel Dare said: "The children and many of the parents were surprised to see the police here when they arrived for school.
"We have these three mysterious eggs and the children will be investigating the mystery.
"They will be describing what they have found in different types of writing such as stories and newspaper reports.
"The arrival of the eggs has certainly got them thinking."
