RUTH and Rob Wadley have raised nearly £3,000 by completing the 500 mile Santiago de Compostella pilgrim trail through the Pyrenees and Northern Spain.
The money will go to Marie Curie Cancer Care and Midlands Air Ambulance Charity.
The 31-day trek follows the Clifford's Mesne couples completion of the first half of the pilgrim route through France in 2008, raising a further £1,400 for Marie Curie.
"This trip took about five weeks," Ruth told the Review (ital). "It's not like a scramble in the Lake District and it's manageable if you're reasonably fit, but you do need to be focused and it can get very hot."
Ruth, who trains with her husband on nearby May Hill, added: "The weather was brilliant. We got the waterproofs out for one hour of one day in 31 – a bit like walking in Britain, I wish."
Local Marie Curie fundraiser, Richard Scott, says: "we are so grateful for the support of Ruth and Rob in completing their challenge. The money they raised will allow terminally ill people in Gloucestershire to be cared for in their own homes, something the majority of us would want given the choice.
"Marie Curie relies heavily on the support of the public, so if anyone is planning a challenge and wants to raise funds for the charity, we would be delighted to hear from them."
