THE Chepstow entrepreneur unofficially known as the King of the Yanadi has been given four weeks to raise £2,500 to buy a piece of land crucial for the future of a project in India.
Barry Watson, the boss of social media company Club Social Junction says the clock will start ticking on Friday – and if that target is reached he will need to raise the same sum again by December.
When he first met the Yanadi people in rural India they were living in mud huts on a rubbish dump. Mr Watson has bought two plots of land but they are currently separated by a third which is about 100ft square.
He has dubbed the fund-raising mission "Operation Mission Link" and he is hoping that Review readers will again chip in towards the total.
He said: "We started building for the Yanadi tribe over the last four years and to date we've built 31 houses, a school/church and a chicken farm.
"All of a sudden we've been offered the last piece of land to unite the whole village but we need to raise £5,000.
"The piece of land is about the size of two netball courts but it is absolutely crucial to what we want to do.
"Having this land will unite the village and allow us to add stone-built toilets to each plot which is something the Yanadi have never had before.
"We've also supplied sewing machines so the women of the village can set up their own small businesses making and repairing clothes.
"We've already had donations from some lovely people and any donations, no matter how small, will be massively appreciated.
"The Review was the first paper to pick up on what we were doing and we had a lot of donations as a result.
"Since then it's gone crazy and my suit was given to me by a company called Asian Suits in London.
"They said if I was a king then I needed to dress like a king.
"I wear it when I'm doing street collections in Chepstow and I reckon it adds about 30 per cent to the donations."
