THE 17 year-old daughter of a man who was allegedly knocked off his motorcycle by a driver who afterwards ran away has written a message about her feelings on the incident.

Kirstie Barnett of Lydney writes: "To the driver and passengers of the car that caused an accident (at Aylburton) on Monday afternoon:

"I would like to thank you for showing so much consideration for my dad. After knocking him and his bike across the bonnet of your car, I thought it was very decent of you to try and carry on driving, leaving him lying in the road.

"I have never known anyone show such little care for another person in my life. Did you not even think about the effect it would have on him and his family?

"He has a wife and three kids and we had to witness him being lifted out of the ambulance with his legs strapped down, a neck brace on and a terrified look on his face. I've never seen my Dad in so much pain, and it's an experience my 14 year-old sister, 10 year-old brother and I should never have had.

"I don't understand how you were allowed to have a full driver's licence because the way you drove yesterday makes me feel sick to my stomach. You could have killed him and then we would have been left fatherless. How would we have explained to my 10 year-old brother that his dad had died?

"We are just lucky that he had his protective gear on otherwise that would have been the case. I hope you feel as guilty as we feel angry towards you and the way you treated our Dad. I only wish you could have seen my siblings' faces when we told them their dad was being rushed to hospital.

"A few more people I would like to address are the woman who sat with my dad whilst he was trying to work out what had happened and how badly hurt he was. He was very confused after he woke up because of how hard he hit his head and I think you helped to calm him down.

"Also the van driver that put his vehicle in the way of the car so they couldn't drive off. I really appreciate the way you handled the situation. It showed us that there are people in this world that care about others."
