PUPILS from a Forest school were the first to get a taste of a new adventure course near Lydney.
Children from St Anthony's School in Cinderford joined Mayor of Lydney Cllr Bob Berryman for the official opening of the low ropes course at the Viney Hill Christian Adventure Centre.
The course was designed and built by staff and volunteers from the local community.
The project was also assisted by a £600 Cgrant from the Forest of Dean District Council which was used to buy safety helmets.
Centre manager Jon Holden said: "It's been a huge team effort, so many people have been involved in it – staff, volunteers and trainees.
"This new activity centre will really enhance what we have already, it will increase our capacity and help different areas in the community who are more disadvantaged than us to come here.
"The low ropes develop team building skills, improve communication and problem solving skills."
Cllr Berryman said: "Charities rely on volunteers, people who come in and work for nothing.
"The Forest of Dean is very special for helping one another and I think what you have done here is absolutely marvellous."
