A NEWNHAM couple spent their first wedding anniversary getting their house ready for a charity light show.

Anna and Darren Whitney are hoping the display outside their home in Orchard Rise will give the Dilke Hospital in Cinderford a Christmas gift.

It is the second year that Anna and her husband, who runs his own electrical business, have put on a show for a local good cause.

Last year the display raised about £350 for Cancer Research and this year’s show was switched on by family friend Sam Birt.

Anna said: “The money we raise will be going towards a family room for people who have family members at their end of life.

“This is such a wonderful idea as it’s so important to have somewhere to go and have a cup of tea and rest, as I found from a personal experience at the Dilke.”

The lights are on every night at 49, Orchard Rise between 4.30pm and 8.45pm until Boxing Day. Donation boxes are outside and money can also be pledged through www.mydonate.bt.com/fundraisers/annaschristmaslights.
