WE might have had the wettest summer on record but little Lily Salter, seven, of Clearwell, saw hardly a drop when her parents took her on a six-month touring holiday which included two months of school in Spain.
Lily, who goes to Clearwell Primary School, enjoyed her stay at the Spanish bi-lingual school in Huesca, Northern Spain.
There were 400 children in the Spanish school and there are only 52 in Clearwell, so it was very different said her mum.
"They taught Music, Science and English in English and the other subjects in Spanish. Lily's dad has spoken to her in Spanish since she was born so Lily understands a lot but she has never spoken it," she said.
"She was very shy at first but after about a month she was able to keep up with the conversation in the playground. We lived on a campsite for two months and cycled across the town to get to school.
"The school was very pleased to have Lily and her brother William and made them read a lot in English. Lily's mum went to the school to tell them about where she lived and they all gasped when they saw pictures of the Forest of Dean.
"Northern Spain has had its driest summer for 10 years so the Forest looked wonderful to them. All of the children and Lily's teacher want to visit us now!"
