GREAT Oaks Dean Forest Hospice annual fete on Saturday (June 17) was geared around children this year and enjoyed the best weather the event has ever seen.
“We raised an amazing £6,500, which is one of our best ever results,” said Celia Burton, administration manager at the hospice. “We had fantastic crowds and had a children’s entertainer called Gerry Magic, who donated his fee back to us at the end of the day. Pillowell Silver Band provided music and Lionel Jones kindly gave us permission again to use his field as a car park.
“The Forest of Dean Lions ran the car park and stalls were run by Royal Forest of Dean Rotary.
English Bicknor WI, Rudford, Highleadon and Churcham WI, St Briavels WI, Lydney WI and Lydbrook WI. Our charity shop volunteers, hospice staff and hospice volunteers also ran stalls.
“The police arrived and allowed children to climb in their car and firefighters also allowed children to try out their equipment. Mark Harper (Forest MP) also came along as he’s a big supporter of our work.
“As always it was a real joint effort. There’s a small committee who puts together this event, but it relies on so much help from so many people and we’d like to thank everyone who came along to run stalls or to support the event.
