PUPILS from the village primary school at Llandogo showed off their knowledge of the countryside by winning this year's Gwent Wildlife Trust's 'Wildlife Wizards' competition.

The Wye Valley school team saw off a strong challenge from pupils representing Duffryn Juniors, a Newport primary.

The competition is organised by Gwent Wildlife Trust and tests teams of nine to 11 year-olds on their wildlife and nature knowledge.

Llandogo teacher Gail Roberts described the competition as offering children an opportunity to shine in an area of interest outside school.

Newport company Solutia hosted the final and provided the winner's shield. They also provided prizes for the children.
