COLEFORD and district was plunged into sadness at the weekend following an horrific accident at Perry Grove on Saturday evening in which two local men were killed.

They have been named as Nicholas Upton, of Albert Road, Coleford, and Lee Pickett, of Holcot Road, Coalway, Coleford. Both were in their mid 20s.

The men were passengers in a car which left the road at Perry Grove on the Sling to Coleford road.

The vehicle hit a wall and was torn in two by the impact.

The driver of the car, who has not been named, was taken to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital with serious injuries.

The accident happened around 9pm on Saturday evening and police closed the road for six hours while accident investigators examined the scene.

On Tuesday they appealed for witnesses to the accident or anyone who might have seen the car travelling towards Coleford before the crash to contact them.
