A LARGE turnout of voters is hoped for the Lydney Neighbourhood Development Plan (NDP) referendum tomorrow (Thursday).

Chairman of the Lydney NDP Group, Brian Pearman says it is ’potentially the most important planning document relevant to Lydney to come forward in the last 40 years.’

He said: “I want to boost the turnout for the referendum vote.

“The plan has already passed examination by an examiner appointed by central government. If more people vote yes than no then the Forest Council will be obliged, by law, to consider the provisions of the plan when deciding planning applications in the town.

“The plan has been developed based on extensive public consultation thus representing the views of the community and will be reviewed every few years to respond to changing circumstances.

“The plan contains policies relating to land use which are legally binding

such as town centre development to contribute to positive economic growth and recreational development at the harbour.

“Planning applications must consider water management/flooding, contribute to free flowing traffic, include superfast broadband connections, and respect the environment and more.”

Voting takes place between 7am and 10pm.
