MAY I through your good offices reply to Excellent Work with its 'kind comments' by a Lydney resident.

To put the record straight. Lydney open air swimming pool was given over in its entirety to a volunteer group of trustees by the town council way back in 1999.

At that time the pool was semi-derelict and closed.

Volunteers set to work with the result that the pool was able to reopen.

Over the years, as funds have been raised, improvements have been made resulting in the excellent facilities now available.

The dedicated band of trustees, together with their 'helpers' are proud to be able to provide local residents both young and old with what is now a first class facility and certainly a credit to the town.

Apart from lifeguards everyone working on the site when the pool is open is a volunteer.

Surprising what can be achieved against the odds with team work, co-operation and leadership.

– Pool trustee, Lydney.
