SEVEN Monmouthshire County Council staff have completed the arduous Three Peaks Challenge for a much-needed enclosed garden to benefit dementia sufferers.

The team, all from the council’s social care and health directorate, conquered Ben Nevis (Scotland), Scafell Pike (England) and Snowdon (Wales) without a break to return in 24 hours.

Nearly £9,000 – out of a target of £15,000 – has been raised for the garden at Chepstow’s Severn View Residential Home. Some £1,400 was raised at a disco at Llanishen Village Hall last month.

Direct Care Services team manager, Colin Richings was among the group. He said: “This challenge was fantastic and very rewarding, but absolutely exhausting. We had an amazing team including our back up squad, Maureen Jenkins, Julie Skidmore and Louise Frost who drove over a thousand miles and fed us. We’re very grateful to all those people who sponsored us or attended our fundraising events.”
