A 29-YEAR-OLD man has been arrested and charged following a police appeal over a distraction theft at a Monmouth store.

Around £100 was taken from the till at men’s outfitters Extons in Church Street when a member of staff was distracted around 2.25pm on Wednesday, August 16.

A man from North Somerset has now been charged with theft from Extons, plus two offences in Usk, involving theft from the Manon store and fraud by false representation at Number 49.

The accused was remanded in custody and due to appear before magistrates yesterday (Tuesday, September 5).

Police who put out the original appeal with a CCTV picture of a man they wanted to interview said £150 was also taken from a till at the Tidings gift card store in Monnow Street, Monmouth, on the same day as the Extons theft.

Inquiries are continuing over this alleged offence.
