CIVIC leaders and public figures throughout the Forest of Dean this week paid tribute to the Queen Mother, who died last week at the age of 101.

Among them was Forest of Dean MP Diana Organ, who is now going back to Westminster with fellow MPs and members of the House of Lords following the recall of Parliament.

All recognised her devotion to public service and the place of affection she won in the nation's heart.

Although there are no public records of visits to the Dean to many ordinary people she was always approachable and good-natured, a countrywoman first and foremost with a love of fishing and horse-racing.

Churches throughout the Forest said prayers at Sunday services for the longest-serving Queen Consort in history and a well-loved member of the Royal Family.
